International Award
As confirmed by FashionNetwork.com, since the launch of the call on January 7, a total of 121 proposals from all over the world have been submitted, with Sanchéz and its Tokyo collection being the jury’s favourite. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that Mallorca Design Day has added an international category to the event.
“I feel very excited and proud of the achievement achieved, I think this contest is an incredible opportunity to give visibility to new designers from anywhere in the world,” said Nicolás Sánchez, who is also preparing to present Tokyo in a stellar parade in Puerto Portals, Mallorca on May 24.
“I’m very happy to be able to parade my Tokyo collection in Spain, which is inspired by origami and its folds, as well as the morphology of the broad clothing and the symbolism of the dragon, which is reflected in the scaled textures,” Sánchez told FashionNetwork.com, adding that she wanted to reflect the anachronism of the city of Tokyo by creating a fusion between traditional kimono and more urban clothing.
Nicolás Sánchez is 20 years old and comes from Pehuajó, in the province of Buenos Aires. He is currently studying industrial design and is specializing in the clothing category. For its part, Mallorca Design Day was born in 2017 with the aim of promoting and making visible the work of new local, national and international designers.
