This week the team of #mallorcadesignday went to #MBFW Madrid 2020!
Although we have made you participate in the fashion shows through our social networks, we also wanted to leave here a summary of the highlights of our days enjoying what’s new in Spanish fashion. Let’s go!
ROBERTODIZ, “The black box”
The parade began with an exquisite tribute to the late Andrés Sardà as a journey through his history and his most iconic pieces: the mantilla, the Hamilton era of the 60s and 70s and the lingerie pieces of the 80s and 90s. The presentation ended with the novelties of the new collection, where they wanted to reflect the optimism with which they want to face the future.
DEVOTA&LOMBA, “El Paseo”
Modesto Lomba has been inspired this time by the work of Marc Chagall. This collection is undoubtedly the most in line with this edition of #mallorcadesignday , as it invites us to question the poor use of resources, excessive consumption, toxic waste, the extinction of species and forests and inefficient policies against climate change.
MIGUEL MARINERO, “Vernacular”
The designer presented a collection with which he defends that in order to project the future it is essential to look at the past, go hand in hand with it and reinterpret it. In addition, he has recovered popular techniques and the good work of local craftsmen, relying on decoration to achieve an eccentric irony between shapes and materials. And all this together with his son Nicolas. The most present colours were different blues, mustard, black, grey and toast.
AGATHA RUIZ DE LA PRADA, “HELLO!”
Without a doubt the color and joy of the day brought her with a collection through which she wanted to pay tribute to her clients. The brand’s most ironic prints were very present, but this time they were reinvented. The caftan was the undisputed star of her new collection. Mila Ximenez also made her debut as a designer, and at the end she paraded alongside the Madrid-based designer and the recently-launched model Alejandra Rubio, daughter of Terelu.
PEDRO DEL HIERRO, “Aquarius, The New Age”
The firm put the finishing touches on Wednesday with Nacho Aguayo and Álex Miralles, with an 80s party on the catwalk and redefining the concepts of masculinity and femininity. The protagonists of the collection, inspired by the signs of the zodiac and especially by Aquarius, are satin and glitter and the colours grey and black, combined with garnets, reds and fuchsia.
HANNIBAL LAGUNA, “Phantasize”
An elegant collection where the protagonists were silk dresses with abstract prints, rhinestone appliqués, deep necklines and bold transparencies. The designer followed a line of color moving between blue, purple, lilac, aquamarine green and mustard.
FERNANDO CLARO, “More Love”
With this collection the designer, along with his daughter Beatriz, wanted to show that working with the heart is always a guarantee for things to go better. Around this, the show was divided into four blocks. In the first place was the soul, where the stones, shoulder pads and colored ribbons embroidered on black taffeta stood out; the reason, where neoprene and feathers were very present; the grace, with garments of white, pearl and ivory tones; and chimera, where extreme volumes and brilliant fabrics were clear protagonists.
CUSTO BARCELONA, “Thank you, next”
The designer opted for a new femininity inspired by a dynamic world. The technological materials combined with metallic colors and wide silhouettes were the highlights of the show, all without leaving the essence of the firm: comfortable and functional looks. Though it’s always tended towards sports fashion, we could see that this collection has probably been the most successful to date.
DOMINICAN, “Idolatry”
The young designer presented a collection whose creative imagination includes figures such as Picasso, Almodóvar, Luís Buñuel, Tino Casal, Penélope Cruz, Rosalía and Rossy de Palma. They highlighted the patent leather sequin embroidered tulle, the silk jacquards, the leather laminates or the manila shawls reverted and turned into dresses, trousers and bodies.
THE 2ND SKIN CO, “Woodland”
A parade full of clothes with wide volumes, oversized dresses and coats, with autumnal colors, but also vibrant tones with prints and sequins.
ANGEL SCHLESSER, “Tiwi”
The designer, a great support of our project and jury in our second edition, presented a collection that reflects the return to the essence of the firm, where the protagonist material is again the wool accompanied by organza and silk, following a male line. The novelty of the show has been the incorporation of pieces aimed at men.
TERESA HELBIG, “Opium Wars”
A collection that confronts British rigidity and oriental mystery, two opposing worlds that were confronted by an addictive substance, opium. The contradiction, the contrast and the mixture of cultures took the leading role in this collection.
We can only congratulate all the designers for once again putting Spanish fashion on the top and the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid 2020 for giving us the pleasure of enjoying it. Applause for spanish fashion!!
