Raquel Arañón, our director of #mallorcadesignday, has participated as a jury in the 5th edition of the Deixalles Marathon. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the large amount of textile waste generated by the fashion industry, as well as giving designers the opportunity to create a style from second-hand clothes and give it a new use.

Participants have nine hours to complete this challenge after selecting the household textiles (sheets, curtains, and even sofa covers) provided by the foundation.

Our director has not forgotten to mention the high level of creativity of the proposals and how difficult the jury’s deliberation has been. And in this edition the extra challenge consisted of coming up with a closure for the clothes without using zippers, as well as valuing creativity, portability and minimization of textile waste.

This morning at the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny the award will be given to the three designs selected by the jury.
