In a world where we have pushed the planet’s resources to the limit and especially in the fashion sector (it is the most polluting industry behind oil), it is a reality that the use of recycled and sustainable materials is no longer an option, but a necessity. That is why we decided that the theme of this third edition would be “Save the Sea”, since we believe that new designers must be aware of the planet and at the same time they must make consumers aware.
One of the ideas that we find most interesting is that of upcycling, a technique that consists of transforming something that we no longer use into an even better piece that is useful again. It is a mistake to think that creating new fibres is enough, as there are thousands of materials that can be reused and given a second chance. This is the case, for example, with the initiative “Upcycling the Oceans“, carried out by the famous Spanish foundation Ecoalf, whose aim is to transform the rubbish collected from the oceans into top quality yarn for making clothes. You can also be inspired by the fabrics they propose: nylon, cotton, wool and recycled tyres.
In this way we are not only managing to reduce the impact on the environment, but we are also adding value to that piece, extending its life and curbing excessive consumption. What more could you ask for? Remember that there are many well-made garments, but it is really the story behind this one that makes it special, so dare to create your collection by giving a second life to something that is no longer useful!
