The jury of the most important international showcase for new design talent in Mallorca and one of the six in Spain has announced its decision. The collection by Argentine designers Camila Medina and Agostina Mucanna has won the International Fashion Award at the 3rd edition of Mallorca Design Day. Their collection MÍMESIS, in which they reuse disused broken boat sails, was the jury’s favourite.

The National Prize went to the designer from Biscay, Begoña Chaves Agulla, from Ondarroa. Chavez has been inspired by her passion for the sea and her belonging to a saga of sailors to create this collection. The garments are inspired by the old sailors’ work attire.

The jury has also selected 6 proposals from new designers from the Balearic Islands. The finalists are: Natalia Martínez (Ibiza) with MAR DE CONCIENCIA; Caterina Pascual Cladera (Pollença) with SALS; Carolina Galvis (Palma) with OLK; Mª Pilar Sarmiento (Palma) with CONEXIÓN; Pau Nieto (Palma) with CANONGE and, Nadal Cabot Rodríguez (Palma) with NOIR. The winning collection will be announced on the 24th of September at the event to be held at the Ramis factory in Inca.

A total of 47 proposals were received this year, with international participation being very important. “We have received collections from Mexico, the United States, Chile, Italy and Ecuador. We have also received proposals from each and every one of Spain’s autonomous communities,” says the creator and director of the event, Raquel Arañón. This year’s theme is “Save the Sea”.

The aim of Mallorca Design Day is to showcase and promote new talents in the world of design on an international level. The FIT (Fashion and Technology Institute) in New York also highlights this Spanish event on its website. The III edition of Mallorca Design Day will have a physical-digital format in line with what has been done in other international fashion shows such as Paris, Milan or New York.
